How Tall Is Ron DeSantis? The Official Answer
The most reliable number we have comes straight from DeSantis himself. During a 2023 appearance on Patrick Bet-David’s podcast, he was asked directly how tall he is, and he answered 5’11”. That works out to 71 inches, or roughly 180.3 centimeters.
That figure is not new. When DeSantis played baseball at Yale in the late 1990s, the team roster listed him at 5’11” as well. College athletic rosters are not perfect measuring tools, but it is helpful that the same number shows up more than 20 years apart, long before his height became a political talking point.
So if you want one answer to “how tall is Ron DeSantis,” the best-supported figure is 5’11” (180 cm).

Why Do Sites Report Different Ron DeSantis Height Figures?
Search for his height and you’ll see anything from 5’9″ to 6’0″, and a few pages even claim 6’3″. The higher numbers have no reliable support. The real disagreement sits between about 5’9″ and 5’11”, and it comes from a few sources.
The Cowboy Boots Debate
In 2023, during his presidential campaign, social media users began pointing out that DeSantis almost always appeared in black cowboy boots. Viral videos claimed the boots hid inserts or lifts to make him look taller. A few bootmakers interviewed by national media said the fit of the boots and the way his trousers sat on them looked unusual to them.
DeSantis and his campaign denied the claim. He said the boots were standard, off-the-rack Lucchese boots and repeated that he is 5’11”. There has never been any evidence that he had surgery or any medical procedure related to height, and claims along those lines are unfounded.
Footwear Changes Photos
Western boots normally have a raised heel of around 1.5 to 2 inches, compared with about 1 inch on a typical dress shoe. Anyone wearing cowboy boots will look taller in photos than in sneakers. That alone explains why estimates based on pictures vary so much.
Photo Angles and Posture
Height comparisons in photos are tricky. Camera angle, distance from the lens, stage risers and posture can easily add or remove an inch or two. A widely shared image showed DeSantis looking close in height to golfer Tiger Woods (commonly listed at 6’1″), but footwear on both sides makes that picture unreliable as proof either way.
Celebrity Height Estimate Sites
Some height-tracking sites estimate a figure of their own from photos, landing around 5’9″ to 5’10”. These are guesses, not measurements. Since DeSantis has publicly stated 5’11” and his college roster matches, we treat 5’11” as the main figure and the lower numbers as unconfirmed estimates.
Reported Height Figures Compared
| Reported figure | In cm | How reliable? |
|---|---|---|
| 5’11” | 180 cm | Most reliable: self-stated in 2023, matches 1999 Yale roster |
| 5’10″–5’10.5″ | 178–179 cm | Photo-based estimate |
| 5’9″ | 175 cm | Repeated by many blogs, no official source |
| 6’0″ and above | 183 cm+ | No credible support |
Ron DeSantis Height Compared to Other Politicians
How does the Florida governor measure up against other well-known political figures? The table uses commonly reported heights, which can vary slightly by source.
| Name | Commonly Reported Height | In cm | Difference vs DeSantis (5’11”) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ron DeSantis | 5’11” | 180 cm | — |
| Donald Trump | 6’3″ | 191 cm | DeSantis about 4 in shorter |

| Joe Biden | 6’0″ | 183 cm | DeSantis about 1 in shorter |
| Marco Rubio | 5’10” | 178 cm | DeSantis about 1 in taller |
Most of the height talk around DeSantis came from standing next to Donald Trump, his rival in the 2024 Republican primary. Trump’s height has been listed at 6’3″ in White House medical reports, which makes the gap between them very visible in side-by-side photos. Trump also joked about the heights of several other rivals over the years, including Marco Rubio.
Ron DeSantis vs Gavin Newsom
DeSantis and California Governor Gavin Newsom faced off in a televised debate in 2023. Newsom is commonly listed at 6’3″, so he had a noticeable height advantage on stage. The debate itself focused on policy differences between Florida and California, but the height gap was one of the things viewers commented on.
Ron DeSantis Height vs the Average American Man
According to CDC data, the average adult man in the United States is about 5’9″ (around 175 cm).
| Comparison | Height | In cm |
|---|---|---|
| Ron DeSantis (stated) | 5’11” | 180 cm |
| Average US man | about 5’9″ | about 175 cm |
| Difference | about 2 in taller | about 5 cm taller |
At 5’11”, DeSantis is roughly two inches taller than the typical American man. Even if you use the lowest common estimate of 5’9″, he would still be right at the national average. Either way, he is solidly in the normal height range, not short and not especially tall.
